If your organization runs on either one, you can now send personalized bulk texts from your existing extension — the same mail merge you'd get from Google Voice, Dialpad, or Zoom Phone, using the number your recipients already have saved.

Why this matters if you're on 8x8 or RingCentral​

Both platforms already have an SMS API, and both APIs are well built. They're also the wrong tool for most of the people who ask us about this.

Going the API route means creating a developer app, generating and storing credentials, writing code against an HTTP endpoint (or paying for middleware that will), and getting whoever administers your account to sign off on the whole arrangement. For a teacher with a class list or a front office with tomorrow's schedule, that's where the project quietly dies.

Bulk Texter Pro takes a different route. It drives the web app you already use — clicking, typing, sending — just faster and without typos. So there are no API keys, no developer app, and no permissions you don't already have. If your number can send a text today, you can be sending personalized batches in about five minutes.

What you need first​

One prerequisite applies to both, and no tool can work around it: your number has to be SMS-enabled already.

Both platforms require registration before any number can send texts — brand and campaign registration on 8x8, SMS registration or toll-free verification on RingCentral. That's a carrier requirement across the industry, not something either company invented.

The quick test is the same either way: sign into the web app and text your own cell phone. If it arrives, you're ready. If it doesn't, your administrator needs to finish registration first.

One RingCentral detail worth knowing​

RingCentral enforces a 1.4 MB limit on photo attachments, which is small — a photo straight off a modern phone will blow past it easily.

You don't need to do anything about it. If the photo you attach is larger than the limit, Bulk Texter Pro resizes it automatically before sending. (Animated GIFs are the exception — those aren't resized, so a large GIF will need compressing first.)

Filling a real gap​

Zoom Phone is a solid business phone, and if your company already lives in Zoom it's hard to argue with keeping everything on one platform. But it has no bulk texting at all — not even the basic broadcast some competitors offer. One thread at a time was the only option Zoom gave you.

Bulk Texter Pro fills that gap: write once, personalize from a spreadsheet, send from the number you already have. Each recipient gets a private thread, and replies come back into your normal Zoom Phone conversations.

The one gotcha worth knowing​

Zoom limits outgoing messages to 500 characters by default. Go over and Zoom refuses to send.

This bites more often with mail merge than you'd expect, because your merged message is longer than your template — a 480-character template looks safe until a long name pushes a few recipients over the line. Your Zoom administrator can raise the ceiling to 1,600 characters in account settings, and the preview screen shows you the real length of every message before anything sends.

Zoom's SMS registration is also more involved than most platforms', so confirm you can text from the Zoom web app before you start.

Dialpad already has bulk texting — so why this?​

It does, and it's worth being precise about where it stops, because that's the reason people ask us for this.

Dialpad's bulk messaging sends the same words to everyone, up to 50 recipients at a time. No names, no account numbers, no appointment times. It's a broadcast tool, and a perfectly good one for "the office is closed Monday."

What it can't do is send 200 people a message that's actually addressed to each of them. That's mail merge, and it's what Bulk Texter Pro adds.

No API, no admin​

The other route to personalized texting on Dialpad is their SMS API, which means developer work and getting your account administrator involved. Bulk Texter Pro drives the Dialpad web app the way a person would, so there are no keys to manage and no permissions you don't already have.

Two prerequisites: your Dialpad account needs to be set up to text external numbers, and you'll need Chrome or Edge, since Dialpad doesn't support Firefox.

Why TextNow​

A lot of our users are one-person operations who needed a second number and didn't want to pay for a business phone system. TextNow is a cheap, fast way to get one — but it has no bulk sending at all, so texting sixty customers meant typing sixty messages.

That's the gap this closes. Write the message once with blanks in it, upload a spreadsheet, and every customer gets their own version from your TextNow number.

One setup detail that trips people up​

Your Bulk Texter Pro subscription email has to exactly match your TextNow account email. That's how the integration verifies your subscription belongs to your number. If they don't match, Bulk Texter Pro will show your account as Unverified and won't send.

You'll find your TextNow address under Email on the TextNow settings page. Register with that same one and you're set.

Sending expectations​

TextNow users generally manage around 100 quality messages an hour, and free accounts are more limited than paid ones. TextNow is also aggressive about shutting down numbers that look like spam — so this is a tool for messaging customers who already know you, not for cold outreach.

Bulk Texter Pro can now send personalized bulk texts from your own Android phone number, through Google Messages.

Your actual cell number​

This one's a little different from our other integrations. Rather than a separate service like Google Voice, Android sends from the number already in your phone — the one your team, your class, or your customers have had saved for years.

That matters more than it sounds. A text from a familiar number gets read. A text from an unfamiliar 800 number gets ignored.

How it works​

Bulk Texter Pro drives Google Messages for web, the browser version of the Messages app you already have, which relays through your phone. You'll pair it once by scanning a QR code, and after that your phone just needs to be on and online while a batch sends.

Everything else works the way it does on our other platforms: mail merge from a spreadsheet, private one-on-one threads, scheduling, photos, and live progress as the batch goes out.

A note on limits​

Your messages go out as RCS through Google or as SMS through your carrier, and both set their own rate limits that no tool can lift. Most Android users get through roughly 150 quality messages an hour.

Since this is your personal number — harder to replace than a business line — text people who know you and expect to hear from you.

This was our most requested integration by a wide margin, and it was also the hardest to build well.

Real iMessages, from your real number​

Texting another iPhone, your messages go out as normal blue-bubble iMessages from the number your recipients already have saved. If someone's on Android, Apple falls back to SMS automatically. Replies come back into the Messages app like any other text, and nobody sees anyone else's number.

Built on Apple Shortcuts​

We built this on Apple's official Shortcuts app rather than on jailbreaks or unofficial Messages replacements. That matters for a few reasons: it's a supported automation framework, it isn't going to get your Apple account into trouble, and it doesn't require you to install anything sketchy.

It also means you don't need a Mac. A lot of iMessage bulk texting tools are Mac-only. Ours works on iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Worth knowing before you start​

Because we're working within Shortcuts, a few things are outside our control. Shortcuts can't send photos, can't schedule messages, and strips the + from international numbers. If those matter to your workflow, Google Voice or Android will serve you better.

The setup also takes a few more minutes than our web-based platforms, since you'll install our Shortcut alongside the extension.

Why this was worth building​

If you wanted to text a photo to a large number of people, Google Voice didn't give you good options.

You could send a group text — which means everyone sees everyone else's phone number and replies. Not ideal for a class list or a congregation.

Or you could type out each contact's number and click through the several steps to attach a photo, once per person. Tedious enough that most people just didn't.

Now each recipient gets their own private conversation with the photo attached, and nobody sees anyone else's number. A teacher can send a graded assignment image, a religious leader can send an inspiring graphic, a business can send a new menu — all individually, all in one batch.

How to turn it on​

Photo sending is opt-in for now. Open the account menu at the top right of Bulk Texter Pro, click Settings, and check the box to enable it.

We're labeling it experimental at this stage. A group of beta testers found it stable and reliable, but it's new, and we'd rather set expectations honestly than oversell it.
